Description: 7" x 4-3/4". Platinum or matte-surface silver print photographic portrait of Clemens, seated, full-length, in a two-piece white suit, smoking a cigar. Matted, framed, and glazed. Inscribed and signed by Clemens, "To Sir Gilbert Parker with the love of Mark Twain, April/09." "This wonderful photograph, inscribed to the novelist Sir Gilbert Parker, shows Twain in his white suit, smoking a cigar. Twain's flamboyant outfit, which he called his 'just stunning' suit, became one of his trademarks in later years and was particularly appropriate for attention-getting New York strolls" (Lilly). Clemens met Winston Churchill in Parker's home in 1893.
